                                                     MSU CELC





               The Certificate of English Language Competency Examination from Michigan State University is a four-section test that con-
               sists of the following Modalities:


                      Writing Ability              A:  Think about it - Write about it!  A test of English Writing ability

                                                   B:  Grammar you can use!  A test of English Grammar


                      Listening Ability            Listen to this! A test of English Listening ability


                      Reading Ability              Read about it!  A test of English Reading ability



                      Speaking Ability             Talk about it!  A test of English Speaking ability





               The 4 Modalities bear equal weighing (25 points each) and the Pass Mark is 60 out of a possible total of 100 points.

               1) Writing Ability:  A: Think about it - Write about it!: 20 points
                              B:  Grammar you can use!: 5 points
               2) Listening Ability - Listen to this!: 25 points
               3) Reading Ability - Read about it! : 25 points
               4) Speaking Ability - Talk about it!: 25 points

               Effective as of the May 2015 administration, the requirement to score at least 12 on each of the 4 sections will be dropped
               for CELC only. All candidates with a total CELC score of at least 60 will pass. Aggregate scoring is allowed.

               The CELC exam is designed to assess English language ability at the B2 Level of the Common European Framework of
               Reference (CEFR) in all four modalities (Writing, Listening, Reading, and Speaking).

               According to the Michigan State University, who develop the tests, some of the most important special features of MSU-CELC
               include the following:

               * The test uses every day English as it is spoken and written around the world.
               * Each SPEAkING and WRITING sample is scored by a minimum of two raters.
               * Previewing questions during the LISTENING comprehension portion of the exam is allowed, and some extra time
                is provided for that purpose in Parts 2 and 3 of the listening section.
               * Longer LISTENING passages are played twice.

               The Writing Ability section consists of an ESSAy component and a multiple-choice GRAMMAR test.

               The Listening, the Reading and the Grammar tests are in the MULTIPLE ChoICE format
